I think this tribe deserves a little more chatter - let's show kalx some love! :-)
OK, so my current favorite dj is 45 rpm. Yes, he does sound like the comic book store guy from the Simpsons, but hey. His music is outragously fabulous punk noir. I had a friend over at my house Saturday who swore she had found the new love of her life.
I also always liked Mona Me with her Smiths fetish. Too bad she's in London now, but I believe her spirit lives on!

Re: who's yer favorite dj?
Mon, November 15, 2004 - 3:16 PMDJ Kitty was always my favorite; the funk, the soul, and oh that voice. Anyone know if she's gone permanently or just taking a very very long break?
Second place goes to Ad Nauseum. Runner-ups would include Mona Mie, Disco Shawn, and Rebekah (even though she dissed the B-52's). -

Re: who's yer favorite dj?
Wed, January 18, 2006 - 7:43 PMJessie Lucious is my favorite because he plays punk, comedy and whatever he dragged off web or wherever...
I also love to hate Majority Whip... sometimes he comes off as such an pompous dude but he plays really good stuff.
I love KALX! The only time I turn it off is when the sports broadcasts come on... aaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!

Re: who's yer favorite dj?
Mon, December 6, 2004 - 8:48 AMOhhhhh a tough question!
In years past... Laura in the Livingroom, DJ Kitty, Annie Dangerhouse!
These days... Sergio, Meaty Paws (Pause?... we should call and ask eh?) and I have to give props to Disco Sean. We used to laugh at him, oh man! His enthusiastic trance sets, good gods, excruciating. He's learned a lot over the years, and become a great DJ. My kid loves him, he's got that hip pop edge in there. His segues into public service announcements can't be beat.

Re: who's yer favorite dj?
Fri, February 18, 2005 - 10:04 PMi guess it's hard to for me to pick favorites but Russel Gillan gave the best news reports i have ever heard.
kalx has had a lot of dj's come and go over the years they all have brought their own flair.DJ Megatron was a favorite durring his days at kalx.
they're all my favorite dj's. well there's a couple i could pull the plug on ,sometimes.

Re: who's yer favorite dj?
Thu, March 10, 2005 - 10:01 AMthis question begs to differ between fave DJ personality and fave DJ MUSIC.
i love miss kitty AND her music.
i love disco sean (and am HOOKED on Subsonic), but am not so into his sets. i mean, where the hell is the DISCO? seriously.
i am also a big fan of The Next Big Thing. a lot of info going on there and i love that he promotes the up and coming like mad and will play almost anything.
i'm into almost all of the DJs, actually. the only music i don't dig is whoever the DJ is that plays the seriously spaced out digital music that sounds like someone's trying to tune their radio or a NASA transmission or something. that stuff's for people on smack.

Re: who's yer favorite dj?
Tue, June 14, 2005 - 10:38 PMmy monday morning zoo crew:
Jesse Luscious --caffeinates me and gets me shakin' my groove thang when the wee bairn wakes me up before sunrise.
The In Crowd-- the Raymond Scott was a nice find, but the Astor Piazzola that followed was icing on the cake. And the Marvel Comics Radio Theatre featuring Bill Murray as the Human Torch?!!! To die for.
Best. record. collections. ever.

Re: who's yer favorite dj?
Thu, June 16, 2005 - 1:14 PMSex 4 Teens (or whatever he called himself) was pretty good...and Vish Varnay, of course. There was an Asian guy who used to be on Saturday afternoons who played great stuff, but his on-air presentation was beyond dreadful. -

Re: who's yer favorite dj?
Thu, June 16, 2005 - 1:56 PMSex 14s was out on medical leave but is now back Tuesday mornings 9:30-noon.
Haven't heard Vish Varnay for a while...

Re: who's yer favorite dj?
Mon, October 10, 2005 - 9:30 PMcertainly not the ones that yammer incessantly! geez, louise! get over yourself, already!
djs that play great music *and* know enough to keep their personality in check*... (a little goes a long way!)
brother grimm
roscoe 2000
laura in the living room
mike burma
charley varrick
kitty
45 rpm
sex for teens
imo, sometimes djs seem to forget that people tune for the music, not to hear what the dj ate for breakfast... -

Re: who's yer favorite dj?
Mon, October 10, 2005 - 9:34 PMe. rodney jones -- yes!
omg -- i can't believe that you all actually tolerate disco sean! it seems like his shows are 95% talking (and not terribly interesting talking, at that) and 5% music! he's one of the few djs that i actually get up and turn off kalx when his show starts... -

Re: who's yer favorite dj?
Tue, November 1, 2005 - 4:19 PMHeh, yeah, give the kid another listen ;) He does babble still, but he's gotten a lot better with what he plays and what he says. -

Re: who's yer favorite dj?
Mon, November 14, 2005 - 11:12 AMI don't follow the personalities much. I just tune in and listen. If I like what's playing I stay, if I don't I move on. The thing that I always loved about KALX is that it is diverse in it's programming. That's the main reason I volunteered there in the 80's.

Re: who's yer favorite dj?
Fri, December 30, 2005 - 11:35 AMSex 14s: too snotty
Disco Shawn: hate the music
Everybody else is my favorite. The newbies are playing too much 70's pop for my taste. They obviously didn't have to live through it. -

Re: who's yer favorite dj?
Tue, January 10, 2006 - 7:40 PMDisco Sean and Te Te!!!!
They Rock!!!

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: who's yer favorite dj?
Tue, January 17, 2006 - 7:46 AMJesse Luscious for the music and his chatter and commentary, somehow relating current events to the vintage punk track he just played. Nothing changed in 30 years, nothing will.
45 RPM for the music but I think his talk is a little mumbly and too halting and fast sometimes. But still I like the tunes he spins.
There are others- pretty much any DJ at any time is better than what's above 92.1. Except the pure digital/analogue/ambient noise DJ's that are frquently in rotation. I have a threshold of 3 minutes and then I'm off to another college radio station.
